Special Event: Craig Robinson

Special EventsCraig Robinson most notably portrayed acerbic Dunder-Mifflin employee Darryl Philbin on the Emmy-winning “The Office” on NBC. He is definitely a world away from his original career intentions; before deciding to pursue his comedy career full time, Robinson was a K-8 teacher in the Chicago Public School System. It was while he was studying education in Chicago that he also discovered his love of acting and comedy when he joined the famed Second City Theatre.

As a stand-up comedian, Robinson first made his mark in the comedy circuit at the 1998 Montreal Just For Laughs Festival. That year, he also won the Oakland Comedy Festival Awards and the Miller Genuine Draft 1996 Comedy Search. He soon went on to perform his act on “The Jimmy Kimmel Show" and “Real Time with Bill Maher.” Now headlining venues and festivals across the country, he does both solo acts as well as full-band sets – “The Nasty Delicious” – tying together his lyrical comedy with his finesse at the piano. Whether Robinson shows up with just his keyboard or his seven-man band, the clubs are packed to the brim with raucous laughter and musical comedy.

Helium Presents: Steve Gillespie

A decade into his stand-up career, Steve Gillespie moved from Minneapolis to LA, recently made an appearance on "Conan," and released his critically acclaimed second album, "Alive on State," which reached #1 on the iTunes charts. Prior to that, this gentleman degenerate spent most of his life traveling the country regaling audiences with his delightful self-destruction.

Gillespie’s act is a slaphappy balance of aggression and absurdity, coupled with a delightfully pushy persona and coarse-yet-effective word choice. His hilarious self-flagellation and blistering social commentary has also earned him spots on Fox’s "Laughs," as well as the Bridgetown Comedy Festival and the Boston Comedy Festival. He was a finalist in CMT’s Next Big Comic, a runner up for Best of the Midwest at Gilda’s Laughfest, and his debut album, "Stever Fever from Rooftop Comedy," was named a Top 10 comedy album of the year by ComedyReviews.com. Gillespie has also had the pleasure of sharing the biggest stages with some of the best comics in the country, including opening appearances for Dave Attell, Jim Breuer, Tom Segura, Kyle Kinane, Tom Green, Harland Williams, Doug Benson, Emo Phillips, and Gilbert Gottfried.

Having spent years bartending and interacting with strangers, he was constantly amazed and extremely annoyed at the ridiculous things people say and do in public. A regular performer in comedy clubs, casinos, and theaters all over the country, he has been a choice opener for Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Segura, and most recently, Dan Cummins and Brad Williams.

His second album, "I Heard Enough Yesterday," reached #1 on iTunes and his third album, “I’m Here,” peaked at #2. Both can be heard on Sirius XM.
